Apricot Huckleberry Crostata

You'll love this Crostata ~ also known as an Italian baked dessert tart!!!

One of my all time favorites ~ Apricot Huckleberry Tart!

First it's important to find just the right sweet, ripe apricots! When my friend, Lynn was cooking tarts last summer at my home, she kept looking inside the oven...to see if the apricots were juicing up, which is how you know when a fruit tart is done. She is a little obsessed with her apricots, so in the summer, when she calls me and tells me the cots are ready to be picked, I know she knows what she's talking about. Because now I know an apricot tart is just about the apricots. So you guessed it... the apricots better be the best, and they better be cooked right! One fun and EASY things to do is freeze the delicious apricots that are picked in the summer, and make a beautiful tart on a cold January day!

Lynn uses Julia Child's sweet short dough ~ (recipe for 2 cups all-purpose flour)

2 cups all-purpose flour (scooped and leveled)
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp sugar (2 pinches)
1/4 lb (l stick) chilled butter cut into 1/2-inch bits
3 Tb chilled vegetable oil

A scant half cup of iced water, plus droplets more as needed.

Once you have the food processor out (if you're using one) and the counters all floured up, it's a great idea to make as much dough as you'll use for the next 2 months. But don't make the mistake of doubling the recipe. Make a batch of dough, and then make it again. And again. Making dough in small batches is key.

Roll out dough for the tart, refrigerate the dough that is fitted in your pan.

Using 8 to 10 fresh or frozen apricots (for a 8-10 inch pan) drop the fruit into the boiling water for 10 to 15 seconds. Peel, halve, and remove pits.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of sugar in the bottom of the shell. If the fruit is sliced, arrange it over the sugar in a closely overlapping layers of circles. If it is halved, place the halves, domed side up, closely together in the bottom of the shell. Now, this where you can sprinkle a 1/2 cup of huckleberrys in the middle of the apricots. Spread on the rest of the sugar and dot with butter.

Bake in middle of preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until fruit has colored lightly and the juices have become syrupy.

Slip the tart onto a rack. Decorate with slivered almonds.

Serve warm or cold. Enjoy my friends and keep warm!!!

The neon lights on Broadway are bright...but, nothing quite compares to the Christmas Windows up and down 5th Avenue in New York. We hope you will enjoy this visual banquet of the Bergdorf Goodman windows. It is astounding!!! Even the skyscraper reflections have ensured themselves a permanet place in the picture.

It will be a full house at the Hanning's Home! Soon it will be filled with the sound of Christmas Music, laughter and lots of little voices, of course this year we will have 8 grandchildren coming for Christmas Eve and spending the night, and my sister's family of five will be joining us for our traditional Italian dinner, Spaghetti and Meatballs and Spaghetti and Bacala` (Cod fish) and it's soooo delicious! It's fair to say there will be chaoz and arguing (from the little people) and through it all, we will hear happiness and love.

I'm looking forward to sleeping bags and pillows spread all over the floor and an assortment of toys, remote control and games, and I know a few will be playing princess dress up. My children will be home, along with their husbands and children. My heart is full and Christmas is almost here!

Celia and I designed this bakery to be everything a bakery should be....sweet!Once the wallcovering was decided, we had the recipe for paint colors for the furniture, walls, tile and fabrics. The decor is definitely on the sweet side, but the cakes are created for men to love!

Two Women Country Christmas ~ 2011

Cel & I love Christmas....we love the season's magic spell that takes hold of us! We surely look forward every year to Diana and Fielding's Country Christmas Show! It's a wonderful beginning for our Christmas holiday!All the vendors did such an amazing job decorating for this event, we loved walking through the show looking at all the different ways our talented friends decorated,from the simple small Christmas decorations, dusting of glitter, to all-out electrified extravanganzaz.We enjoyed every minute, and came home with so much inspiration for our homes.
We are also so happy that so many of you came to visit us. It was fun to watch the shoppers so jubilant over their purchases. We have to say we saw so many of you having fun shopping! We enjoyed seeing each and everyone of you, and we TRULY enjoyed hearing all your Christmas memories and stories. We never get tired of hearing about your mother's and grandmother's belongings, and the meaning these objects have to you.

Sneak peeks...before the grand opening!!!

We are thrilled at the outcome of the design for SWEET frostings, one of the main design elements we used was beautiful floral wallpaper. Cel and I and our clients are at one with the happy colors of pinks, greens,and blues in the floral wallpaper, and loving the coral bathroom wall color. We used a variation of the same colors on the vintage furniture pieces and colored accent tiles on the counter and back splash.

Rather than high-end furniture, we searched out vintage furniture, that added character and personality to the space.

We are hoping when guests visit the store, there will surprise and delight. This bakery has been so much fun to dress up,even the chairs are skirted to look like little girl's dresses. The space is cozy with out being cluttered; and is visually charming and comfortable.

We wanted to create a space that reflected our clients Judy and Sally, which we feel we have accomplished a bakery design that expresses their joy of living.

Please put this bakery on your list of MUST SEE and of course MUST EATS!!!

Spokane Coeur d'Alene Magazine calls our show " A Beautiful Masterpiece" we hope you will feel the same and come visit us at the Charming Five Mile Prairie Grange.
We've added more vendors/artists, live music Friday evening, tasty treats for our guests to enjoy while they sit, sip, and shop, in a magical tea party setting. 123 Cartering will be there to complete our Mad Hatter theme with fabulous foods.

We are over the top excited about this year's Mad Hatter Event! We hope you will come and see many of your favorite vendors from the past two years and our NEW artist/vendors that will be joining us this year.

We are growing and growing.... from 17 to 28 vendors. This will be our largest event to date. This year we will have live music on Friday evening and Fabulous Food by 123Catering Friday evening and all day Saturday.

Artworks of Spokane will be joining us this year with the AMAZING Anne Sloan Chalk Paint & Products. Once you try this amazing chalk paint, you'll love it! No more sanding or stripping necessary. Val from Artworks will be giving paint demos, showing waxing techniques and they will have several vintage pieces of furniture for you to see. They will have a hands-on-table set up for you to get a feel of the paint. And, that's just one of our little surprises!!! The Funky Junk Antique Show is coming up this Saturday & Sunday ~ September 3 & 4 from 10am - 4pm, Admission $2...the new location 621 Oak St., Sandpoint, Idaho. It will be a blast....wonderful vendors, new and old friends, food, drinks and live music. Bring your blankets and chairs and stay all day! Please come by and say hi...you'll for sure pick up a few treasures.........

Cel and I have been getting things priced and ready for Funky Junk. Lots of fun painted little tables and the cutest little iron bed, perfect for your little one...we can't wait. Oliver turns 3

August 19 Oliver turned 3. He had a "Monster Birthday Party" at Nana & Papa's home. Many of his family and friends were invited and they all came bringing gifts and love for Oliver. His favorite foods were served, which included gum gum, piz piz, dip dip, chip chip.(We love his little language, every word spoken is said twice.) We made mini pizza's just his size and Judy made him MONSTER Cake Pops, which we'll show on our next post. He didn't eat very much, he was to busy putting on a show for everyone, he is a magical little one to watch, once you meet him it is easy to be magnetically drawn to him. He is loved, loved, loved, and to think what life would be without him would be unimaginable. You see on my birthday June 29, Oliver had a near drowning experience, he somehow...which we will never know, fell into the pool. He was out of our sight for only a few minutes, when Celia found him and pulled him out of the pool, he was not breathing and was very, very blue, she began administering CPR. I remember his little toes were curled up and it was the worst feeling one could ever imagine. Time seemed to stop, minutes... felt like hours, he began coughing and spiting up,and then to hear him cry, we felt so blessed, a miracle happened.... You can imagine all the different scenarios one would be thinking.... we are so thankful and blessed. Thankful that angels surrounded him that day, and blessed more than words could ever say. This was a life changing experience for our entire family.I believe this experience was a blessing, and a miracle for all of us close to Oliver.Everything we need is right here----in this moment. So happy to hear my grandchild's laugh and cry and to just enjoy a simple life!

Bottles, Bottles, & More Bottles

....It's a Friday morning, and we're set for our day on the yard sale trail. Our first stop is just a few miles from my home in Peone Prairie. It's advertised to open at 8:00 A.M. but, we're there at quarter of. An elderly gentleman and his very sweet little mother, she in a dress with nylons and carrying a little red purse to keep her change in, are still dragging their wares out of the garage. We spot several old wooden boxes full of old glass bottles and medicine jars, sitting outside the garage. The bottles were covered in mud, they appeared to have spent the winter (maybe several) outdoors. As we showed interest in these beautiful bottles, the elderly gentleman began to share a story told in such an earnest manner that we felt reluctant to up root them from their history and home. He told us that he and his cousin started collecting bottles when they were fifteen years old. They would dig up old bottles and jars in the Peone Prairie and the surrounding area from abandoned buildings and home sites, wash them and line them up on a shelf and a window seal, he so kindly let us look at his collection. The elderly gentleman and his mother were happy to see the bottles go especially when we told them we were going to use them for a very special day. (Celia & Josh's wedding in August)
We love the thought of a treasured belonging of another, is now apart of our life and for us to treasure.
This little junking journey was less about the find and more about the people, and our experience along the way.

** Most bottles made between 1810-1910 were crafted by hand. These are the ones serious collectors are after. Bottles with lots of bubbles in the glass are really very old ones.
Colbalt blue, red, green, and amber or any unusual shade contributes to the value of the bottles. Bottles with paper labels intact are more valuable.
*Try to avoid bottles that are chipped or cracked.

What we love about this show is how loving and hospitable everyone is. Linda and Deb are both such an inspiration. Their show is an absolute dream, the space they hold their show in is light and airy with sunshine pouring into the beautiful old windows. Wonderful music playing through out the day, and happy vendors and customers....the making of a perfect show. We met so many new vendors and customers, we only wish we could remember all their names. Today I received a beautiful gift in the mail! Somerset Life Magazine....now please excuse me for gushing a bit, but an article I wrote and submitted to Somerset was published in the July issue! Yipee!!!!!

I wrote the story as a gift to my parents for all the love and support they have given to me, and I hope some of the ideas will inspire and encourage you as well.

Thank you Somerset for the awesome blessing and making one more dream come true for me!

Lilac Water

A few weeks ago my sister Jan ~ the 50 best punch recipes, posted a new site she found, The Tea Bag Compost Pile. The site showed how to make lilac water. Today with lilacs in bloom in our back yard, I thought I'd give it a try. The recipe calls for a stalk of lilac and add it to water for 12 to 24 hours (while in the fridge.) I used a ginger jar I had handy, but you could use a gallon water jar. Take the lilacs out after their steeping time and drink this delicious flower water within a few days. Store in fridge and strain into cups throughout the day to drink. It is energetically good to uplift the heart and spirit. I hope you get a chance to try it. I poured myself a glass only after a few hours of steeping and it was very delicious!!

We would love to share a little story with you about this amazing event called 'The Farm Chicks Antiques Show' ~ held in Spokane, WA., June 4 & 5. The promoter of the show, Serena Thompson brings together a wonderful mix of antique and vintage vendors from many parts of the United States. This event has grown from a very small event to now a thriving, growing, much anticipated and needed event in Spokane. We love Serena's passion for vintage and handcrafted goods. The Farm Chicks is truly an inspiration to us!!!

Now, we would love to share a bit of our booth space with you. We chose to be in the BLUE this year, with Blue Boy, Blue Lockers, Blue Cupboards, many other blue treasures.
We enjoy this show so much...from visiting with other vendors to all the shoppers with happy faces, carrying big heavy bags, pulling carts and wagons filled to the brim and overflowing with treasures and lots of oohs and aahs...lots and lots of hugs and kisses to old and new friends. We love it all!!!

My Mother in the 5th grade ~ she grew up to be a mother that everyone loved, and goodness did she know how to love back. She loved to squeeze and kiss us, stroke our hair, tuck us into bed, and always reassured us that tomorrow would be better. She created a comfortable, loving, home that was nurturing to our family and many others that lived with us for short or long visits. Our home was a place of refuge, all because of my loving Mom.

We were 20 yrs old when we met, crazy and in love!

He is an out-going, fun loving active man, at work or play. He loves to hunt and fish

then loves to tell some amazing stories. He is a dedicated, principled, and strong

husband and father.

I am intensely emotional and a sentimental person, but I am also easy-going, and at

times have a spunky side. Love is very important in my life, and in its name. I love

new experiences and adventures.

You know they say, opposites do attract.

Dreams came true for us...

We had a family, 2 daughters and a son (he was born on my husband's birthday)

We have alot of love for each other and love for God.

We have renovated several homes, and have built 2 homes. Our home we live in now we

built to look like a old home, our floors are 100 years old.

We have planted gardens together, raised chickens, we had horses, bicycles, 4

wheelers, tents, tent-trailers, campers, and motorhomes, for all the lakes and

mountains and oceans we have traveled to.

We have skied many, many years together as a family, and even skied the Alps in

Austria and Germany.

All our Dreams Came True...

We have had difficult times in our marriage ~ lots of struggles. In these tough

times ~ we pray and remember the day we were married and said "I DO".

for richer, for poorer

in sickness and health.

We made promises to each other and to God....until death do us part.

Today we celebrate 37 years of life together ~ the joy & pain, laughter & tears.

Several few months ago on my way home from our local grocery store, I noticed a new sign, in our Peone Prairie, "FRESH EGGS". Pizza! When we think of Soul Food.... Pizza is always number #1 in our family.Mark's

pizza pies as he calls them are fabulous. His pies are not made by the book but,

rather by instinct. It's a treat to watch Mark bake Pizza, he tastes, rather than

measures the special seasonings, not a clock to tell when the pie is finished

baking, rather by the smell. These skills are hard to teach. They must be

felt....and come straight from the heart and soul.

I'm Still Head Over Heels for Mexico!!

Something for your weekend....
Puerto Vallarta ~ this is where we vacation every year, except this year, and that shall be another post. It is always sunny, blue sky and blue water, and very HOT, The Hotel Buganvillia where we stay is in a part of the town that is very American, it has a Starbucks within walking distance and a Wal-Mart and Burger King. But, the part of town we love is the Delicious Mexican Old Town. Let me show you some of our favorite places....

Beautiful flowers....

All along the promenade, Mexicans stake out their territory and create truly magnificant sand sculptures, they put a little white cardboard box near for tips~ very charming

Looking over the city from one of our favorite restrauants, The Palomar, its hidden in the hillside, candle lit tables, rustic charm, and the view is fabulous, under the stars.

Oh! Yes!!!! Guacamole!!! Its the first food we order for breakfast, lunch, and dinner....and thats how we roll.

It's Madison's Party ~ Our little Madison turned seven over the week-end, she delights in anything pink, including pink food, bursts of laughter, telling funny stories, being with girl friends, cousins, and family. This sweet expression of love was sent to me from my sis Jan...In Paris, the Pont

des Arts, the bridge that crosses the Seine, between the Louvre and the Left Bank,

bicycle locks are attached to the side, of the bridge. Its a tradition apparently

for lovers to write their names on a lock, tie it to the bridge and throw the key

into the river...so sweet!!

The workshop was amazing, taught by friends, Elaine Tolson, Holly Baublitz and Becky Ellis, that are artisans and expert crafters, they were ready to pass on their know-how to us, and help us with ideas and suggestions.

There is magic that happens when women come together to create, no one can explain but everyone is sure to feel it.

I don't know about you, but for us in the northwest, February the shortest month of the year seems like the longest, with its cold, gray days.

Last night, my daughter Celia told me she and her cute hubby had a date night. I asked her what she wore, she said, her jeans and 'red' high heels.

I thought, Of course, we all need to wear red high heels in Feburary! It's a month to live a fantasy, eat chocolate, stay in bed a day, or maybe just stay in your jammies, make a wood fire in the fireplace and read love stories.

Today is a day to be with those you love, most importantly be kind to yourself and show yourself some LOVE, a little self pampering perhaps??? It's called self-preservaton. I hope you can take a little time today for yourself. This month of February give yourself a day to tune out the wants of the world. Read a book?? How long has that been?? Or take a walk in your yard and look at things with fresh eyes, maybe planting a new flower bed. How about it?

A good friend of mine, Deb Thoen is in the well-being industry, she tells me pampering is preventive medicine. Deb says, pampering ourselves may seem strange at first but taking care of ourselves first is very soulful and loving.

Today I will have an afternoon massage, one small kind gesture for myself...I already feel selfish and frivolous just saying the words, but I shall persevere, and when I start to feel forbidden again, I know pampering is an important part of staying healthly and well, and loving myself.

Art Found in a Chicago Auction House

A few months ago, I came across an article that was very interesting to me, because I love history, art, and vintage black and white photos. The article told the story of a women's belongings sold at an auction house, but very little was known about her and her life, except she had an amazing eye for photography! Since reading the article I searched on-line, and found a little bit more about this amazing street photographer... some beautiful photos! Her name is Vivian Maier, she was born in 1926 and died in 2009. Her work was discovered at an auction house in Chicago,by John Maloof. He acquired her belongings from a storage locker, that was sold off due to delinquent payments, for $400. The discovered work included 100,000 mostly negatives, and thousands of prints, countless undeveloped rolls of film. She lived most of her life in Chicago,worked in a sweat house when she was young, became a nanny for a family, kept to herself and always carried a camera with her and chronicled life on the streets of Chicago! 1-2 Punch...Cassicus Clay, Sonny Liston, Leon Sphinx, George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard...these are a few of the names we grew up with.

Watching the Saturday night fights with our Dad, a bowl of popcorn (or my favorite, boiled peanuts) was our "quility" time together. Who ever the winner or loser was, didn't matter to us, our biggest concern was whether or not either of them had a "cauliflower ear". As kids this was a fascinating possibility! Our Dad was a chef. Chef Fred Oliver, (so now you know where baby Oliver got his name). Over 30 years of experience. Starting out in the USAF as NCO and Officers Club Manager, and in his retirement (at age 40 something) at some of the most prestigious local clubs and restaurants. He even cooked for one or two of the Presidents of The United States.After his death, while plowing through his immense library of cookbooks a "TREASURE CHEST OF PUNCH RECIPES" was discovered. It is by far THE BEST and MOST COMPLETE collection you will ever find...with a recipe for every occasion. Also included in the find, were many party planning tips, menus and appetizer recipes.On my sis's blog are the best 50 punch recipes. There's literally 1000's.

Twelve new months will be at our door again. For me the New Year brings what is important; to keep joy in my heart, to love with all my heart, and to be thankful for the gift of life! (we had a pajama day with all their favorite movies, I hope they had as good a time as I did)

Why can't real life be more like the Movies?

In our house one sacred holiday tradition is the annual Christmas classic cinema celebration. This week as we hang our stockings, finish wrapping the last gifts, we watch White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Christmas in Connecticut, The Bishop's Wife, Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas Vacation, and of course, It's a Wonderful Life, I love this movie starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.

Frank Capra had no idea his sentimental small town fantasy would become a favorite.
As the story is told on Christmas Eve, the night of miracles, and good old George Bailey certainly needs one. After a life time of saving the lives of others, he's giving up on his. He's broke, disgraced, facing prison, and in despair over a savings and loan shortage that is truly not his fault. After wishing he'd never been born, he's about to jump off a bridge, when he's rescued by his guardian angel who temporarily grants his wish by showing him what the world would have been like without his contribution to the world.

George believes he's never had a lucky break, But when he steps back to reconsider his choices, he realizes they were the right ones. He's also a rich man; he has a loving and supportive wife, healthy children, work that makes a difference, and more friends than his house can even hold at one time. He realizes, it's a wonderful life he was about to throw away.

Every year that I watch this movie with my family I discover just how wonderful my life is ~ I don't have to jump off the bridge, I can step back and take another look at my life and the lives I've touched.

This treasured tradition is important to me and my family, and I hope we will continue to do it year after year ~

A Childhood Cookie Favorite ~

Genite Cookies ~ Our favorite Christmas Cookies ~ we make these special cookies only at Christmas, this recipe was pasted down from my Italian Grandmother.

Bake 350* for 15 minutes

12 eggs beaten

add ~ 3/4 lb. butter - melted & cooled
2 c. sugar
1 t. anise oil or vanilla
10 c. flour
3 T. baking powder

Roll into rope shapes & 'tie' the dough in a little knot ~ Frost with powder sugar frosting.

Cookies make great gifts. Everyone loves cookies. And they're easy to package in a creative way. We like making an assortment of cookies best ~ a vintage lunch box filled with the classics in our home would be: Genite, Peanut Butter Blossoms, & Gingerbread boys & girls.

Brown bags also make great packages for cookies, Stamp the bag first, or wrap a ribbon around the bag thats as wide as the bag itself.

Celia & I had the best week-end at Two Women 'Country Christmas'. It was a very special Christmas Show. Chilly outside but sooo warm & cozy inside! So many wonderful Christmas treasures and Sooooo many talented vendors. We enjoyed spending Christmas time with Elaine from Tinker Verve and Kathy & Jennifer from Unexpected Necessities and met the most amazing ladys from Bertha & Brambles, Kari & Nan, from Fairfield, WA, so creative, I purchased some of their beautiful boiled wool stockings that I will be hanging in our home this Christmas!

We were blessed to be next to our friends Funky Junk Hollie & her gracious Mom Gail.
My friend Erin ~ Ladybird and her sweet daughter Gracie always a joy to see and visit with.

The Blessings of friends ~A new friend was born today, Celeste & Oliver... so cute, and he is soooo in love with her!!! "More pictures please", says Oliver.

This story begins with two little people, that are so precious to me, and I'am so in love with...hope you will be too.

OK, Oliver I totally agree...but we are here for Serena's Christmas Book Signing!!!
There are so many yummmy treats in her book,and we can make them at home!! Can't wait to try the Chocolate Mint Cookies!!!!

E! Entertainment Project

In August we were asked to style a set for E! Entertainment, for this Lovely Lady ~ Melissa Moore, she is the bestselling author of Shattered Silence and has been featured on Oprah, Good Morning America, People Magazine and Discover.

Our first consultation we discussed her style, budget, selected paint colors, and then the shopping began...

Melissa loves the beach, ocean, and cottage look, which we felt was a perfect fit, for her and the style of her home. She already had several wonderful furniture pieces to work with, so we just filled in and layer her home with creamy off white cable knit throws, lots of soft pillows, candles, shells, a natural braided chenille jute rug, a very large original oil painting which was purchased from an artist at 'The Art on The Green', in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. A large rectangle ottoman was purchased and slipcover in white canvas and is used for a coffee table in front of the leather sofa. We hung a natural woven tote with leather handles, filled with flowers she loves, on her hall tree, and an over sized basket with driftwood of all sizes and shapes was placed in the corner of the living room.

When the camera crews arrived, Melissa told us she didn't have to scramble to find pieces that would give the room a polished look, she felt content and was able to focus on the details of her interview.

We feel her home know reflects her personality, it is warm, charming, cozy, interesting and inviting.

We are continuing to add pieces to her lovely cottage home, most recently we added a coral lamp and a very sweet chair, to her office. Hopefully we have given her a beautiful and serene space to live, she so desires to have a peaceful refuge.

If you haven't read her book, please do! She has chosen to be a bright light, and gives to others so graciously. She is truly one of the most courageous women we have ever met.

Thanks Timi for a FABULOUS Show!! Ruffles & Rust was an absolutely Amazing Show! A perfect setting ~ two old white barns with open beamed ceilings, wood walls and a fabulous black & white painted rustic floor ~ it was perfect for Ruffles & Rust!

We had so much fun....meeting new vendors, chatting & dinning out! We even had a fire alarm go off Friday night at 1AM ~ that wasn't fun, but added to the excitement of our trip.(We were told later, a few boys in a high school band were having fun).

The Mad Hatter began as a vision from a story book, and memories from my daughters childhood, and lots of imagination. We then found this great little grange, and with help from family and friends that love us, we brought it to become concrete form. Piece by piece, until one day our vision became real.

OH! MY! OLIVER TURNS 2

Today is Oliver's Day! A day to make our little boy, feel like a KING!! Because his Birthday was the week of our wedding, we decided to celebrate his day after our wedding!
We had a very low-key celebration with extended family,
I didn't make a cake....But, I did make Chocolate Dipped GIANT Marshmallows! We bought the cutest party favors at our favorite store 'The Farm Chicks Store'.
Part of his celebration included roasting marshmallows at NaNa and Papa's home.
He opened gifts from us. He opened gifts from Dylan and Charlie, from Nana and Papa and Uncle Michael, Auntie Sonia and Uncle Mike, Marshall, Maddie, and Ava. Aunt Jan, Cousins Tera, Lele, Reilly and Shannon.

His gift from us is a family that loves him more than he'll every know.

This past weekend, friends, families and customers attended The Funky Junk Show in Sandpoint, Idaho...AND WE HAD THE BEST TIME EVER!!!!! Thank you, Hollie and Jennifer, together you two organized the BEST Show, and gave us a perfect weekend. You both made us feel like family!! We love you and your OH so cute families!! Thank you girls, you are the best! We met so many new talented vendors, such a blessing. Thank you, shoppers, who contributed to the fun and an amazing turnout, it blew us away!! The support we get from customers makes this all worth it!!! We love each and every one of you!!!

Nothing is more thrilling and romantic than a home wedding. Our family and friends worked together to create such a beautiful day for Celia and Josh. I hope the warmth and gratitude that Steven and I feel toward all of them are reflected in these beautiful wedding photos.

Thank you Sonia, for helping me keep my house clean and keeping our household running smoothly and with efficiency these past months as we were planning the wedding and working on design projects. Most importantly keeping everyone calm!! Your presence means so much to me.

Thank you Sara and Yannie,for the floral work,and folding the napkins over and over again, because of our gusty winds.

Thank you cousin Shari,(the chef)and friend Lynn (the assistant chef) they worked their fingers to the bone,and they made the most amazing food, we are still receiving calls from friends about how great every bite of food was.

Going to the chapel, and I'm going to get married....

Well maybe not the chapel but Yes today is the day that I will marry the Love of my life, my soul mate, my friend and companion.

We are so excited for 'The Event of the Summer' as so many have begun to call it. However, if it wasn't for all of our friends and mostly family none of this would be possible...

We spent the day Friday setting up the tent, tables, chairs and dance floor with the help of two fine men from our local A to Z rental, joined by my dearest friends, Angelique, Sara and her cute husband Yani, and my BFF Melissa we set the tables with white linen table clothes and oversized yellow napkins. It was so much fun spending time with my dad and friends outside preparing for 'our day' outside.

While inside, the cooking was on... the wonderful aroma filled my parents beautiful home, with grilled vegetables and garlic. My mom's cousin Shari, an amazing chef, (she was the chef at last years 'Mad Hatter Show'.) She and Lynn (assistant chef) along with my mother were busy preparing FABULOUS food that will be served at our evening wedding.

I am so overwhelmed with the love and generosity that my parents have shown over the last few months as Josh and I plan and prepare for the joining of our two families. I am so thankful for being blessed with such wonderful parents that have taught me how to love, and be loved.
Thank you mom and dad! I love you both so much..

A Country Wedding..........

Welcome!!!
This is our home, where our children were raised. It's a beautiful country home(I would say a formal country home, but very comfortable....something you may not know about me is I designed our home from the ground up and oversaw the entire building process as well as making every selection from scratch; the type of siding, to the shape of the spindles on the staircases to the style, shape and size of the millwork throughout the house - every detail, even the outlet covers. Together with my husband we built a home that our family could live and grow up in. I am totally proud to have pulled it off, I am blessed to have a patient husband. But, this post is not about me it's about our home and this weekend.), and the country setting is even more beautiful, we are surrounded only by things we love, the bonds of home, family and our love to entertain those we love.

This home will be the setting for Celia and Josh's wedding this weekend, it will once again be filled with family, friends, cooking and fabulous food!!

As I pray for Celia and Josh, I pray for them a home with love, faith, spirit of adventure and courage for a long and happy life together!

"Often, for those of us who are drawn to ordinary objects that have been used and loved, the things we rescue become part of the family.

This is especially true of Gladys Hanning.

“I have collected and brought home many pieces of furniture, paintings, books,” she says. “Our home reflects my passion for hunting these wonderful imperfect treasures.” She especially loves vintage art.

“ For years I have collected still life paintings of fruit. Most of my canvases are signed, but by no one you’d know,” she says. “I discovered them at garage sales and auctions (paying) $25 at the most. I have filled the walls in our kitchen with these beautiful pieces of art.”

Hanning says she learned to love vintage pieces from her parents.

“Collecting has always been apart of our life,” she says, specifically mentioning her father’s love of cookbooks. “He was a chef.” Her mother was also a treasure hunter and Hanning honors those finds.
“Several pieces of furniture my mother purchased at garage sales for $5 have found a place in our home, as have my father’s cookbooks.”

Like many who love the thrill of the chase, Hanning has turned a love of rescuing old things into a successful career.

“In 2002 my daughter, Celia Hanning joined me in my interior design business, ‘Junebug Furniture and Design’,” she says. “With her background in design she has added an amazing and vibrant energy to our collection and offerings.”

What started as a hobby has grown into a successful business. And a lot of mother-and-daughter fun.

“Together we are passionate junkers. We can’t drive by a yard sale without stopping, and of course, there are the early, early, morning estate sales,” she says. “We are always on the hunt for one-of-a-kind treasures to be repurposed, repainted and restored.”

Now, with the popularity of Shabby Chic and junk decor, Hanning has put to use the skills she’s honed over the years.

“My passion for junking began as a way of life and grew into an appreciation of the imperfect,” she says. “Comfort, simplicity and a sense of practicality are the key elements to my designs.”

And nothing defines comfort and simplicity than that ubiquitous symbol of summer: the lawn chair.

“Over the years I have found several metal yard chairs from the l940’s. I have given each of my girls a pair and have several lined up in our driveway,” she says.”

The chairs aren’t just part of the decor. One of her painted metal finds becomes a place to sit for a moment and reflect on the good life. And a good day’s work.

Today they turn nine, the beginning of becoming 'little men', even if its just a little, they are becoming their own people.They are both full of so much energy and athleticism and they are developing into good team players. They just finished baseball, and played together in Hoopfest as the 'Five Mile Ballers' not sure who thought up that name??? We are going to enjoy these years, watching them grow into men.

I am so excited to share with you the arrival of my wedding dress, but I have decided to wait and show the dress to you after Josh sees me in it on our wedding day!

Cotton Candy Machine has been reserved....Hmmmm I'm thinking about a Snow Cone Machine??? What do you think? Or I'm I getting a little carried away?

I picked out my Cupcakes for our guests and a small Lemon Chiffon Wedding Cake for Josh and I at CAKE! Working with Gina from CAKE was so much fun, she made everything easy and sweet!!!!

Sneak Pinks at The Vintage Barn and Latah Variety Market

We are so very excited to participate in these TWO great shows! Rolane and Dean at The Vintage Barn are amazing to work with and their home and THE BARN is the perfect country setting, yesterday we set our booth up in 90 degree temperture, thank you God for a cool breeze,there was so much excitment for the first show of the season at The Vintage Barn and everything is so cute... the new PINK truck and the cutest play house for their girls, of course they painted the house green with pink garden tools hung on the side of the house. Can't wait for you to come see us and all the great vendors!!
Tonight we will be setting up our mellow yellow booth at Latah Creek Variety, our very sweet friend Erin (jewelry designer) will be taking care of our booth on Saturday as we will be at The Vintage Barn, but on Sunday we will be at our booth bright and early for Chaps Pancake Feed and enjoy the day Celeste and Dan have planned for everyone, it's a family day, bring your children. We hope you can come join us for the day! We are looking forward to seeing all of you and our vendor friends, 'Funky Junk' girls Hollie and her mom Gail and sister Heidi will be there, along with many, many more. Come have fun girls!!!!!

Wednesday Wedding Plans

So, my mom and I decided that every Wednesday we will up date you with the most recent wedding plans...

Friday,June 25, we finally made the decision for the tables. We are renting tables from our locally owned and operated A to Z rental,(Trevor) has been so fun and easy to work with. We will have 12(8 ft.)tables, 12 white table clothes, 100 white folding chairs one 20x30 white tent , one dance floor and who could have a wedding without one COTTON CANDY machine???? Yep! yellow cotton candy!!

I also chose the brides maids dress,at JCREW of course. I am in love with JCREW this season.. I am still trying to decide on flats or a wedge for the girls ... What do you think?

I would love to have some input~

My trip to Seattle a few weeks ago was very successful... Josh and I found the most darling dresses for Emily and Madison, they will be our flower girls... and I bet you can guess where we found them, Crew Cuts of course~

The boys; Dylan, Drew, Charlie, Oliver and Marshall will be dressed in casual summer attire white v-neck tees from crew cuts and grey Volcom shorts... and flip flops, too cute!

With Color!!!!!

I couldn't think of a better time to go crazy with color than at my wedding!!!
Can you guess what colors we chose??? Yep! I am a little crazy over yellow lately, and white... the freshest, and gorgeous pewter! All so beautiful together.
We are planning an outdoor wedding at my parents home, and we are so excited!! Planning a home wedding is something I have always dreamt about. See you next week for another wedding update.
